The visionary behind Mango’s global success leaves a lasting impact on the fashion industry.

The fashion mogul’s untimely death leaves a lasting legacy as Mango continues to thrive in the global fashion industry.

Isak Andic, the visionary founder and owner of the global fashion empire Mango, tragically passed away on Saturday at the age of 71 following a hiking accident. According to police reports, Andic slipped and fell more than 100 meters from a cliff while hiking with relatives in the Montserrat caves near Barcelona.

Andic, originally from Istanbul, moved with his family to the Catalonia region of Spain in the 1960s. In 1984, he founded Mango, which quickly became one of the world’s leading fast-fashion retailers, rivaling brands like Zara’s parent company Inditex. At the time of his death, Andic was worth an estimated $4.5 billion, according to Forbes.

Mango’s CEO, Toni Ruiz, paid tribute to Andic, saying, “His departure leaves a huge void, but all of us are, in some way, his legacy and the testimony of his achievements. It is up to us … to ensure that Mango continues to be the project that Isak was ambitious and proud of.”

Mango, under Andic’s leadership, achieved significant global growth, with a turnover of 3.1 billion euros in 2023. The company has maintained a strong presence in over 120 markets and continues to innovate, with 33% of its business now conducted online.

Isak Andic’s sudden death marks a poignant end to the life of a man whose vision transformed the fashion industry, and his legacy will undoubtedly live on in the continued success of Mango.
