Bruce Springsteen Reveals Retirement Plans: ‘I’ll Keep Going Until It’s Over’

At 75, The Boss shares his thoughts on stage fright, future plans, and an upcoming biopic about his life.

The legendary rock icon, now 75, discusses his love for performing, stage anxiety, and upcoming biopic.

Bruce Springsteen, affectionately known as “The Boss,” recently opened up about his future in music, making it clear that retirement is not on the horizon just yet. Now 75 years old, the rock legend has been performing for nearly five decades, captivating audiences around the globe with his electrifying performances.

During an appearance on “The Graham Norton Show,” Springsteen discussed his ongoing love for performing and his refusal to call it quits any time soon. “You’ve never seen a hearse with luggage on top, so that will be it for me,” he said, reaffirming his dedication to staying on stage until the very end. “I am going to keep going until it’s over,” he added, implying that his final performance would only come when life itself draws to a close.

Despite his extensive career, Springsteen revealed that he still experiences what he called “anticipatory anxiety” before shows. “It’s not quite the same thing as nervousness. It’s a natural feeling to have before you go out to challenge yourself,” the New Jersey native explained. “If it wasn’t there, I think there would be something wrong with you, and you couldn’t do the job.”

Fans will soon get a deeper look into the rock star’s life with the release of the biopic Deliver Me from Nowhere, in which actor Jeremy Allen White portrays Springsteen. The film focuses on the period following the release of Springsteen’s 1980 album The River and his work on the stripped-down 1982 follow-up Nebraska. Springsteen praised White’s performance, saying, “This is not easy to do because you can’t do an imitation, you have to do a personal interpretation… but he is a great actor and sings pretty good.”

Springsteen has remained heavily involved in the project and lauded the film’s “lovely cast.” White, known for his role in The Bear, also shared his excitement about playing the iconic musician, describing Springsteen as “the greatest guy” and “really supportive” of the film during an interview with GQ.

With a new documentary, Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, recently released and no plans to step away from the spotlight, The Boss is proving that age is just a number. His fans can rest assured that the legendary performer will continue to rock stages around the world for as long as he can.
