Flu Forces Superstar to Postpone Performance, Promises Refunds for Ticket Holders
Mariah Carey has been forced to cancel her highly anticipated Christmas concert in Pittsburgh, just hours before she was scheduled to take the stage at the PPG Paints Arena on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. The legendary singer, known for her festive classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” shared the disappointing news with fans on social media, explaining that she had come down with the flu.
” Pittsburgh, I am sorry to say, I’ve come down with the flu,” Carey wrote in a heartfelt message on X (formerly Twitter). “It breaks my heart that I unfortunately have to cancel tonight’s show. I love you all so much.” Her cancellation comes as part of her ongoing Christmas Time Tour, which kicked off on November 6 and is set to conclude on December 17 in New York.

Ticket holders for the Pittsburgh show have been informed by Ticketmaster that they will receive full refunds. At the time of the announcement, no rescheduled date had been confirmed, leaving fans eagerly hoping for a future opportunity to see the star perform live.
While this cancellation has been a letdown for her Pittsburgh fans, Carey’s next performance is scheduled for Friday, December 13, at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. However, it remains uncertain whether her health will improve in time for the show.

Carey’s illness follows a recent milestone as her iconic holiday song, “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” once again topped the Billboard Hot 100, reclaiming its position as the number one song on the chart. She marked this achievement with a touching moment at her Raleigh, N.C., concert on December 9, where her 13-year-old twins, Monroe and Moroccan, whom she shares with ex-husband Nick Cannon, presented her with flowers to celebrate the accomplishment.
“I couldn’t have dreamed of a better time or place to celebrate the news than on stage with my amazing fans, my kids and my #Christmastime tour family,” Carey shared on social media, expressing her gratitude and joy.
Carey, who first released “All I Want for Christmas Is You” in November 1994, has become synonymous with the holiday season. The song hit the Hot 100’s top 10 list for the first time in December 2017, and since then, it has dominated the holiday charts year after year.
Despite the setback in Pittsburgh, Carey’s festive spirit continues to shine, and her fans are hopeful she’ll be back on stage soon.
