The singer expresses disappointment over the unexpected health setback, assuring fans that a rescheduled date is in the works after her ER visit.

Shakira has been hospitalized in Peru due to an abdominal issue, leading to the unfortunate postponement of her highly anticipated concert. The 48-year-old singer took to Instagram on Sunday to update her fans, explaining that she had to visit the emergency room the previous night for urgent medical care.

“I am sorry to inform you all that last night I had to go to the ER for an abdominal issue,” Shakira shared with her 150 million followers on Instagram Stories, just hours before her scheduled performance. “The doctors whose care I am currently under have communicated that I am not in good enough condition to perform this evening.”

The Colombian superstar, who has been on her “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” tour, expressed her sadness and regret over missing the chance to perform for her fans in Lima, Peru. “I am very sad to not be able to take the stage today. I have been looking forward to reuniting with my incredible fans here in Peru,” she wrote, adding that she was hopeful for a swift recovery.

Shakira, who had planned to perform at Lima’s Estadio Nacional on both Sunday and Monday nights, also reassured her followers that her team was already working on rescheduling the event. “I hope to be released and well tomorrow so I’m able to perform,” she said. “My team and the promoter are working on a new date to provide you. Thank you all for your understanding, I love you all.”

The singer’s current tour kicked off earlier this month in Brazil, with her first show in Rio de Janeiro on February 11. Shakira followed it up with a high-energy performance in São Paulo two days later, sharing her gratitude with fans on social media. “São Paulo, you were pure energy and passion! Thank you for singing, dancing, and vibing with me on an unforgettable night. I love you!! See you next time!” she wrote after the performance.

After wrapping up her shows in Brazil, Shakira made her way to Peru for the two-night stint in Lima before continuing her tour in Colombia on February 20. The timing of her illness comes just days after Shakira’s big win at the 2025 Grammy Awards, where she took home the Best Latin Pop Album award for Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran. Grateful for the recognition, she dedicated the honor to her children, Milan and Sasha, expressing pride and love for their support during this significant moment in her career.

Despite this setback, Shakira’s resilience shines through, and her fans can expect to see her back on stage soon. For now, the singer’s focus remains on recovering and returning to the stage in the best possible health.
